Australia recently hosted Sydney WorldPride 2023, a celebration that ran for 17 consecutive days. The organizers point out that the tourism industry, including medical hub tourism, can help stimulate the national economy, because Thailand has a strong reputation among international visitors as a country with advanced medical technology for gender affirmation and a supportive environment for gender diversity. If the government were to seriously gather data in this area and promote medical hub tourism among international LGBTQIA+ visitors nationwide, it could potentially generate hundreds of billions of baht.

Mr. Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of the Move Forward Party, sees this as not just Pride Month but Pride Always, and pledged to work together with the Bangkok Governor on the issue. Of the 45 bills the party was preparing to submit to parliament, at least two related to gender equality: the marriage equality law and the gender identity recognition law. The party also aimed to bring the global WorldPride event to Bangkok in 2028, to build confidence in Thai society that all people are equal.

Thailand's diverse communities have the potential to host the global WorldPride festival in 2028. The goal is not only to celebrate, but to raise the quality of life for gender-diverse people so they can celebrate their pride all year round, while advancing important social issues. If Thailand's Pride succeeds, it would be the first in Asia to do so, opening the door to gender diversity for neighboring countries in the region.

We believe that many countries around the world want so badly to host WorldPride because the heart of it is the desire to attract money that stimulates the economy. If the government, the business sector, and chambers of commerce recognize how significant this money is, and how it can become a new industry that boosts the economy, we should not miss this opportunity, because we believe many countries want these funds too. Otherwise, they would not rush to reform so many laws. We hope that in the next five to six years, if one day it becomes clear that WorldPride can stimulate the economy, that may open a new paradigm in people's minds, one that truly makes room for a plural society, whether for ethnic groups or for gender diversity.

Driving a city of diversity that embraces every difference means first preparing its human rights foundations. For example, if tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ people arrive, which hotels will welcome us without discriminating on the basis of gender, and offer restrooms that are not strictly binary? These are the things a city must begin to develop to show that it genuinely understands gender diversity. Full support from the government is also essential, and together this will help society become less divided and more equal.
