However, before making peace with himself and his son, he had once struggled with the idea of Australian athletes being openly gay. &#8220;My father&#8217;s journey was truly remarkable. In the end, he became a champion and a great ally,&#8221; said Ian Roberts, the LGBTQ legend. &#8220;The interviewer used to tell him he must be so proud of me.
